Darwin to Hai Phong
G'day,
planning to leave in Feb 2011 from Melbourne to Brussels, I'm going home by 4x4... Well, Australia is great but yeah... it's a bloody Island ?c? Originally I thought about a ferry from Darwin to Singapore (Perkins) but then I'd be missing on Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos... So, I want to start Asia from Hai Phong.:confused1: Has anyone heard of a cargo company that would take me and my car (about four tons:oops2:) from Aussie to Vietnam ? Flying will kill my budget I reckon. Thanks Itinerary : Google Maps |

Dili, Jakarta. Singapore, KL are the main ports out of Darwin. You may be waiting a while in Darwin to find a boat to Vietnam, if you do itll probably go through Singapore first anyway. You may have a better chance of finding a boat to Vietnam from Sydney or Melbourne. Why not arrive and leave from KL. Do a loop through Thai, Laos, Camb and Viet (if possible) then down to KL again. Its a comfortable 3day drive in a car BKK to KL. You will miss Indonesia... Fantastic country. regards. |
I fully agree, could be a long operation to get a vehicle sent from Darwin to Vietnam, you could be there quicker by driving from Singapore or KL.
And just in case you get rejected at the border, when its a land border, you can just go back, but if its a port, you are looking at shipping it elsewhere then, at your own cost. I dont know, if they will accept foreign cars or not, but I do know that with bikes it is a big problem. Not totally un-doable like Burma I guess, and some seem to have made it (probably just got very lucky I think!) but cant count on succeeding. Before you ship it there, make sure your vehicle will be allowed entry into Vietnam. |
Mmh good point, I hate doing loops but why not, Singapore-Bangkok-Phnum Phen-Ho Chi Min-Hanoi-Viang Chan-Bangkok...
Is Perkins still running ? |
You dont have to backtrack on the same roads... Mix it up a little and alter your return route to avoid it.
Perkins is still going strong. Look em up in the yella pages and give Karen a call. She'll set you staright. N |
Cool, yeah I agree with you guys, getting the car to Viet will be costly, and the roads are good so what the hell :D
I'll try to do the HUBB meeting in March in Victoria, if any of yous are in the area, beer's on me :funmeterno: |
