Georgia - Fuel Warning
Just to say that under Georgian Law it is ILLEGAL to import fuel in tanks other than the vehicle's original fuel tank. I almost lost 220L of Iranian diesel, though they let me off as a kindness (or because they didn't fancy siphoning it all out).
So be warned! Fuel prices here are more than in neighbouring states (except Turkey), about $1 per litre for diesel, around a dollar for petrol, depending on the grade. Otherwise, very straightforward to enter Georgia with the car. No tax / insurance required, no papers / time limit, just a tiny pink sticker with the registration number stuck in your passport. Lovely country. Daniel |
Many thanks Daniel for the info. I want to take a trip out to Georgia on the bike and this info is what I was having probs in finding.
I'm sure the 80 -odd people who viewed your post so far wanted to thank you too.:rolleyes2: Best wishes!!:scooter: |
Similar laws go for the border between Iran an Turkey. No more than a half full tank it was I thought... Turkey is the most expensive country we filled up.

For Iran to Turkey via Doggybiskit, we had no probs bringing in 1000ltrs of diesel in our truck, no checks. The same for Syria into Turkey via Lattakia...no questions asked.Though apparently people have had issues before.

Hi folks
I confirm. Don't try to take fuel in tanks to Georgia. I had to poured 40 liters from roof tanks before I entered Georgia. I had to reversed on "on man land" and did it. No problem with fuel on iranian-armenian border Also no problem on bulgarian-turkey border (they never ask of fuel on my roof) Georgian-turkey border in Sarpi was very friendly and also no question of fuel. |
