Hi Skip, David Unkovich runs GT-Rider.com. Post on the forum there, I'm sure somebody will sort you out. However, check that your temp import doesn't go over 6 months on your return or your bike will be confiscated and they will want BIG money from you. Read the form.

Is there a limit on the amount of time on the Carnet that a bike can stay in Thailand , as i wil have to renew my carnet while back in the UK anyway, they did not enter any details of the bike in my passport. Cheers Skip

I have a small hotel on Koh Tao. If you have a cover for the bike you can leave it here (outside - but safe)

Thailand doesn't use the carnet and they don't stamp your vehicle into your passport. If they stamped your carnet it is meaningless: T hasn't signed the relevant intl. conventions, so they can't claim against a carnet.

Instead, you should have a temporary import permit, valid for one month. This can be extended for up to 30 days at a time for a max. stay of 6 months. After that your bike MUST leave Thailand.

If you want to leave T longer I suggest you either talk to customs somewhere where they speak English (Chiang Mai?) or you simply leave it here and make sure you will be back and take it out before the 6 months are up. If you don't have the monthly extensions you will have to pay a fine, I believe not exceeding 2000B - but check on GTR.

I've just arrived in Ciang Mai, do you know if there is a customs office here, with someone who could tell me how long i can leave my bike here. I came in from Cambodia and this time i have a permit but there is no date on it as to when i have to leave. And while i was on the border the first thing they asked me was do i have a Carnet, strange seeing as they do not except them here. I put a post on the GT Riders site but have had no reply as yet.
If it is possable i would realy like to leave the bike here as i feel it safer than leaving it in Cambodia. Any help please Skip

This i an older thread so I ask again.

I would like to store my bike in Bangkok for 3 weeks.
I will return before the temporary import expires.

I don't mind paying a reasonable price for the storage if it,s secure.
I also need some repairing on the bike, so maybe a Yamahadealer that can fix it and can keep it for 3 weeks.

Has anyone knowledge of a place.

You schould be able to find such a place in BKK
