india-china-laos

Hi

Would love to get to laos from india via china, don't really fancy going thro Nepal at the mo. Has anyone any info on going thro arunachal pradesh in the northeast of india, my map indicates a road thro dong/zayu. Anyone traveled here, or any indication if this road is currently closed for the winter? Also any info on Chinese regulations/requirements would be great. We are driving a rhd landrover defender.
Cheers.

A couple of guys on 2 Australian registered bikes tried to get from Laos to China at 2 different border crossings last week.....no go. They had carnets and the correct visas.
A kiwi on a Malaysian 125cc bike also tried. No luck there either. He had correct visa but no carnet. Thought it nmay work as it was a small bike.
Oh well, back to the drawing board......

They have reopened the route thru Arunachal Pradesh into Myanmar(Burma) thru which you can reach Laos. You will be required to take a Inner Line Permit to travel thru North East India. The Govt. of India recently held a rally thru the same route.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply, I could not get valid info regarding this. People are still uncertain about this route. But most of them did inform me that getting a transit visa thru burma is difficult and guys at the border demand bribes and also may ask you to transport your bikes thru trucks. I guess the best option is to check out with your local embassy.

Hi,

drangan, did you manage to get from india to laos via china? Or did you take a different route?
I would appreciate if you'd be so kind and tell me which route did you take. My girlfriend and I are planning a route from Slovenia to Australia with a car (LR Defender) and we are looking a way to get from India to Laos. Do you know is it possible to cross the Burma or it's still a big NO WAY?

THX for any help. If anybody else can give me some infos, please do

As long as the current government stays in power, I´m afraid it is.

Going through China may be possible, but from what I´ve read here, not easy at all, and if arranged the ´official way´, will put you up against a mountain of paperwork, and you´re also looking at paying thousands of dollars just to arrange it. I wouldn´t count on succeeding the ´unofficial´ way, either...

And no ferries across the Bay of Bengal. All this combined is the reason, why most people freight their vehicles between India and Thailand (or Malaysia).
