Sounds fantastic Misery Goat. Would love to see some pics of Ladakh region as I am due to go there next June. The only thing that's worrying me is getting ill with gastroenteritis. I intend only drinking bottled water unless from streams in the high mountains and am even considering taking my own food supply and Trangia stove for an evening meal cooked up. can suppliment daily intake with skinned fruit like bannana's. I'm really not going there for an eating experience so could'nt care less what I eat as long as I don't get ill and have to lie in bed for 3 days recovering.

Were U healthy the whole trip ? The Himatchal Predesh region is just a bikers paradise I think.:mchappy:

Road conditions go from awesome to nonexistent so you quickly learn the suspension is a bit lacking, but not unmanageable.

Though a number of the rack weld mounts broke.

After being lost for a day in Kasmir, I finale'd the ~3600k trip with a 600k blast to Delhi from Pathankot. Once you get on the main divided roads you can motor. you have to be attentive to merging traffic though, they don't mind occupying the same space as you on the road. Having no front brake made for a few close calls.

Incident report:
1. No brake pads (my fault)
2. Smashed silencer (a rock deflection at a good rate of speed)
3. Bent foot pegs (the forward/low position didn't accommodate my lean angle in the twisties :innocent:)
4. The chain loosened on my final day, to the point I had to deal with it. A roadside auto mechanic loaned me his wrench (my wrench was with another rider) to loosen the wheel. It was at this time i realize the sprocket had perhaps 4 teeth left. (another item to the list of things i should have inspected closer)

I put this bike through the paces and it didn't burn a drop of oil. the carbs require no adjustment at altitude so most of the hassle for me was self inflicted and not a drag on the trip. Good luck!

Nice Pic's Misery Goat. It looks like you were riding on the new Machismo 500 bullets with the left foot change and front disc brake. The whole area looks a brilliant place for a bike tour. Pretty good prices at the hotels ? You did well to get back to Deli from Pathankot in a day :thumbup1:
