Information about entering Iran needed
Hello everyone!
I am new to this forum and I have heard that this forum is the best place for seeking information about overland traveling. We are 2 guys from Sweden that would like to travel with our motorbikes to Nepal and are now seeking information about how to enter and drive trough iran. Is there any facts out there that could be useful for us? . Permits for the bike? . Insurance for the bikes? . Temporary Importation? . VISA for us? . Covid? Super grateful for answers! |
https://stockholm.mfa.gov.ir/ < should answer all your questions, especially visa.

Carne de passage (CDP) - QUESTIONS
Carne de passage (CDP) - QUESTIONS
I am trying to figure out how it works with Carne de Passage (CDP) and i am sure there is plenty of people here that knows how it works.. For me to arrange with a Carne de Passage in europe I have to go trough Touring Clus Switzerland. As I understand it I have to deposit 100% of the motorbike´s value with Touring Clus Switzerland to get my documents. Do people really do this? I mean its a lot of money of a almost new bike. Please anyone have knowledge about this? //Daniel |
It seems that different clubs that provide the CdP have different prices. With the German ADAC the deposit ranges between 30%-50%. And you will need one for Iran.

The value is the actual cash value.
(It depends on you how accurate you will add all extras in. If you add "all your special equipement for traveling" the value will go up.) For Iran, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka: Motocycle Value -> Costs 0 - 7500€ = 3000,-€ 7501-15000€ = 5000,-€ More details here: https://www.adac.de/reise-freizeit/r...sages-english/ And actual ADAC states this about Iran: Important note: Due to the travel restrictions in connection with the coronavirus pandemic and the possible closure of borders, it cannot currently be excluded that you may not be able to leave Iran in a vehicle by land. This means that re-exporting a vehicle from Iran in due time and form is not guaranteed. Not re-exporting the vehicle from Iran in due time will leave the carnet holder with very high customs claims and also customs penalties. If you have any queries, please contact the ADAC Customs Documents (Grenzverkehr) team at +49 89 76 76 63 38 or cdp @ adac.de |

Yes, the deposit price varies. Some agencies allow you to shop around between countries, most don't. For the Belgian RACB the minimum is 1500 EUR for a motorcycle (3000 EUR for certain destination countries) Also the way the value of the vehicle is determined varies. The RACB lets owners put a price on their own vehicles. In the past they did not have any issues with me valuing my motorcycle at the minimum required. |

Thanks- this is what I was "fishing" about. If it would be possible to make the deposit a bit more affordable!! |
Hello,
I too am trying to get across Iran this July/August. Being a UK passport holder this is proving difficult. I have been in contact with Aliyeh at key2persia. They are in contact with the MFA who have stated that they are still not providing visas for motorcycles tourists. Not sure if this is just for UK citizens but sounds as if its for all from her reply. I have also been speaking to Zohreh from magic carpet travel who believes it is possible. However there may be a slight clause in that the motorbike bike may need to be transported by train at the border to my next border. Again as a UK citizen I need to be guided /escorted at all times which is frustrating, you probably won't have this problem. Cheers Alex |
We entered Iran 2 days ago with 2 bikes with Italian and French passport.
All the information needed is here: https://caravanistan.com/visa/iran/ we followed and in 1w we got our visa. About your questions: . Permits for the bike: Carnet the passage and normal documents . Insurance for the bikes: not needed . Temporary Importation: Just the carnet. . VISA for us: if you follow the instructions I linked above and pay 30$ (if I remember correctly) to the linked agency they will send you a code that will allow you to request a 17 days visa to the Iranian embassy, then you need to go to the desired embassy and pick it up . Covid: none. They didn't request anything, not even the vaccination proof. send me a message on Instagram @biglittlerides if you need anything. |
Good to know you got the big bikes across, as that was my biggest uncertainty. My biggest problem now is having a UK passport. I can not apply the conventional way, instead I need to go via a tour agency and be escorted with a cost of around 2k euro! I think that is my only way. Aliyeh at key 2 persia tour company are putting the application through today and have been excellent getting me this far.
Did you have any issues with the bikes being uk registered? I have applied to enter from mid July. But we'll see. The UK passport is the problem. However I was told getting the bike across would be a problem and it sounds like you cracked that. |
Unfortunately this is still close to UK passport holders. Mine has just been rejected.

Hi, the carnet isn't the problem and is pretty straight forward (if not expensive) to obtain in most European countries as far as I am aware. The Iran visa is also straight forward. The problem is the nationality of passport. If a UK only passport holder the Iran MFA will not currently issue a visa for overland travel. Even with full itinerary and escort.
I used key2persia to assist. Extremely helpful and great communication. If you have any concerns I would contact them. They know their stuff and have a contact at the MFA. |
