International driving licence in Iran required or not?

Thanks!
So far i haven't been successful finding any info if it's possible to issue international driving licence in my country. Must keep searching... The local driving licence issuer says Estonia's driving licence mets UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE ON ROAD TRAFFIC Vienna Convention standard, thus is the same as international driving licence. Still, i believe it's different thing...? Anybody knows if Iran is 'Vienna Convention' participant too? Margus [This message has been edited by Margus (edited 31 May 2005).] |
Hi Margus,
Keep in mind that the police in Iran (and most other countrys) do NOT know how a int. driving license of your country looks like. I do not have one. I tell them my normal european driving-license is the thing... and they have no reason to doubt that. Maarten ------------------ - www.maartensworld.com - |
It IS the real thing. The IDP is merely a standardised translation.

Peter's right - BUT I have had it refused - they want ot see your national licence. My experience is that the national licence is REQUIRED, and the IDP is a VERY good idea and can prevent hassles. It's no big deal to get, generally available at your AA, AAA, CAA etc or equivalent.
