iran-pakistan border, closed to private passage?

Hi everybody,
I read on some press that beginning of june the iran-pakistan border, was closed to private passage.
This was supposed to be done by Iran authorities to avoid terrorism contacts from pakistan to iran.
How is the situation now? Is the border still closed?
Can european private cars/bikes cross it with regular visas and carnet?
Thanks for input, Im planning to go there in september....
regards
roberto

It was closed after a french guy was kidnapped. It seems to have reopened - information I just got in Islamabad.
However, be careful: forbidden areas change in a blink of an eye...

The guys were traveling from Quetta to Iran. On the pakistani side, they made a stop. There were two vehicles, one was a camping van, i don't know about the other one. The first vehicle went off, the other stayed a bit longer, and that's when the six or eight heavily armed people came up... Out of the two, one of them was handicapped (I have no precision about that). The guy has not been found so far...:(
so be very careful on this road...

Crossed into Pakistan yesterday

Hi all,

I crossed into Pakistan on Wed 24th June, no problems.
From Nukandi I had to be escorted along the way. Whenever thew police see you they insist on escorting you for your own sake. I wanted to make it straight to Quetta. Glad I didn't. The road is horrible in places. The police accomodated me in Dalbadin, a lovely compound with meals included for free. I am currently sat in an internet cafe in Quetta, and there are lots!!! of armed police and military around. They don't seem to think its safe. But I've had no p[roblems stopping along the way for fuel or drinks . Hope this helps.
