Leh Ladakh with hire bike from Delhi
Hi,
I have been told that you can not ride a bike hired from outside the Ladakh region in Ladakh. I was planning on hiring a bike in Delhi and riding up to Leh and exploring the surrounding areas before head back down south. I like to avoid flying as much as possible internally and would prefer to be on the one bike for the whole trip. Apparently this is a rule by the bike hire or tourism companies in Leh? Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this rule and how it is enforced? Thanks |
I have heard of the same from a fellow rider who's from India.
He told me that if the bike you are riding is not from that region by the registration plate they will not allow you to ride there. I didn't get the information who actually enforces the rule though. :scooter: |
rental
Hi, i have been to India last year , rented bike in Delhi and drive to Leh, Kašmir and back to Delhi. You can drive from Delhi to Leh no problem . But if you want to go Khardung la, Nubra valley , Pangong lake, Umling La, .. you should rent in Leh. You can risk and drive, but you can get in to big troubles if they catch you. Last year in june was ok, but sometimes they have controls special on Khardung la. Even the rental company said if i want to go beyond Leh , i should rent in Leh.
Good luck. |
