Maximum bike stay in Thailand.
 

Hi, I have decided to stop in Thailand for about 6 months but don't really fancy getting my bike to a customs house every month.

Is there a way to get a long term import paper? Or does anyone know the maximum fine is for an overstay? Someone told me 2k Baht but I want to be certain.

Ok, finally found this stuff out by myself. It looks like a maximum fine of 1000 Baht. As stated on the thai customs website. >> Thai Customs <<

Thats not bad, when I first entered Thailand with my bike they stamped my Passport (using an entire page) that I will be paying a huge fine if i left after a month. They told me the price at the time, but i cannot remember it - but i know it was a lot more than that.

That cap only seems to apply "provided he/she does not intend to violate the regulations"--seems like rather a large loophole?

Maybe the cap only applies if you have a note from your doctor saying you were too ill to ride or from a mechanic saying the bike was broken down waiting parts, etc.

I would keep checking around.

Have you checked on Motorcycle Touring & Maps: Thailand : Laos : Golden Triangle ? The info pages and forums are usually the best place for thailand infos.

If you need to to some visa runs/custom runs, there is lots of great biking on the north! Although you can't enter Myanmar you can exit a Mae Sot, turn around and get your stay renewed. Laos is also really worth a visit, I had a fantastic time there!
