Don't count on ATM's in Pakistan to always work.
Our cards (MC and Maestro) were not accepted in Gilgit, Abottabad nor any city on the KKH. Only in Lahore we found an ATM that accepted the Cirrus network cards, and by that time, we were through our dollars.

The ATM in Lahore that worked for us was one of Standard Chartered Bank, located at (31.56712015, 74.31113536).

Like others have mentioned, taking multiple types of plastic is always a good idea.

Yeah, take Mastercard or Visa. There is even an ATM at the Pakistan border on the Khunjerab pass, although the police mentioned it only worked 50% of the time :oops2:
