Motorbike Insurance for Thailand

Hello,
If you missed to by a motorcycle-insurance for Thailand at the border, there is a easy way to get one afterwards. The money I transfered for a 50 Bath fee from a random bank. The policy was send to me as email.

Here what Peter from AA-Insurance wrote:

Thank you for your email.
Yes we can offer the basic 3rd Party insurance - which you have to have
in Thailand to be legal. The cost is only 646 Baht per bike. Can you
email us copies of your passports (photo page only) and registrations
documents showing you are the owners ?
Best Regards
Peter

How long is the insurance valid for for that price?

They charged me 300baht for 30 days at the border. No idea if that was too much but it's still a small amount compared to home.

its valid for 1 year. SO we can use to now for a month go do laos and cambodia and come back for 3 months all insured and legal:innocent:

My wife is Thai and she doesn't think that a policy emailed to you and printed would necessarily be accepted by a cop who checks your papers. Then there is the question of whether there is a real company behind that web site or do they just take your money? It may all be legit...

Well, that's the riddle one has with every foreign insurance.
If bought online or at a booth at the border.
Hope we never have to find out the hard way.

Hi guys,
I need to get very quickly an insurance for my bike, as i need to have one to pick up my bike at the airport in bangkok (its already there and i have to pay for the storage! !)

How did you manage to send him the payment?
Little detail: I'm in laos now til Saturday to get a new visa and i would like to pick up my vie Monday really morning.
I was guessing Western Union should be the fastest.

Cheers.

Hi,

I think most of the insurances you can buy while entering third world countrys will not halp you more then a photoshop print (for the police) when it comes to an accedent. Insurance companies are allways very good in finding reasons not to pay. A friend of me just had to experience this in Kenya.

Thanks for the Info anyway, Tobi

Did customs at the airport ask for insurance? I have not heard of this requirement before (although it is a legal requirement, it has so far not been enforced).

Thailand is not in Africa. If you are in an at-fault accident I'm reasonably confident that your insurance will cover you and my Thai wife concurs with that. Go get it.

Yes, they asked for an insurance. They also ask for a proper tourist visa (visa on arrival was not enough, for a mysterious reason), that's why I'm in laos now..
A friend of mine went though without any problem last year, no insurance nor tourist visa.
But they also asked him a translation in English of his motorbike document. He just did it himself.

Visa on arrival was not enouth? How did you get to Laos then? Did you have to buy another flight?

Bangkok Special: you get 1 month visa-free entry, at all other borders you get only 2 weeks.

...depending on your nationality. I got 30 days visa even at land boarders: http://schoene-motorradreisen.de/?re...ailand_bangkok but nobody ever asked me for any insurance...

Yes because it was urgent. But you can go there and back with the night train for 2000+ baths +laos visa.
I'll come back to bkk by train.
