Is it possible to take a SUV across the bering straight?
I am thinking about driving from the US to India. The plan is to drive to Alaska, cross the bering straight(ferry?) into Siberia, drive south to China and then through China
into India(Sikkim). Is it possible? What are the logistics involved? |
Search this site for China and have a good read. This should give you an idea of the difficulties you will face.
I'm not aware that there is a border crossing into Sikkim, but theoretically you could go through Tibet into Nepal. Good luck and happy reading. ------------------ Salut from Southern France, the bikers' paradise, Peter. |
There is a borderc rossing into Sikkim. They just opened it last year. I am an Indian citizen but not a native of Sikkim. So I still need to get a permit to travel to Sikkim. I have some contacts who can get me that permit.

HI,
Sorry,no cant do that! No ferry, not even a road to Bering strate. No roads after Magadan,on russia side and no roads after Alice Springs,Alaska. No man has ever crossed the Baring strate with wheels,or tracked anfibius vehicles. I think no one has yet crossed it on foot. Only high organized, with huge budget expeditions have tried it,but no sucses. To get a prospect of what's involved, read this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A388172 http://www.maxadventure.co.uk Cheers JonDoe |
