Roadbook Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam
Hi everybody,
while waiting for my motorbike to be released from the customs in Bangkok airport, I'm trying to find informations about the good roads and places in Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. I will also go in Vietnam, but separetly, as I will buy a local bike there. When I receive the bike, I will ride to Phnom Penh along the coast, and through Koh Konh (border). My tire are a bit worn out and the bike needs maintenance, so I won't go far from the main roads there. Around mid-november, I will start from Phnom Penh. My bike will be ready, with new tyres on (I hope to find good offroad tyres, also suitable for the road, like metzeler karoo 3, mitas e09, michelin 63, etc..). From what I've seen from the airplane, Cambodia and Laos seem to offer amazing offroad, that make Mongolia seem very easy. I would really appreciate any advice of good tracks or places to see in these countries. I have no time limit, really (for this year, I will stop end of january, but If I need more time, I will continue my roadbook next year). Oh, small detail : my bike is an africa twin, so even if I like offroad, I'm a bit more limited than a 250 CRE.. :scooter::funmeterno: :mchappy: |
Hi niquedouille
If you need any help with your bike servicing in Phnom Penh, then you might do well with a countryman of yours called Bernie (French ex pat), at Red Raid Tours - co-ords: 11°33'08.4"N 104°55'17.1"E Off-road, Laos in one of the 'hidden jewels' of SE Asia. A fellow HUBBer - screen name 'Steve canyon', whose real name is 'Chris' - travelled extensively in Laos a couple of year ago. Click here for part of his story. Steve /Chris would be a useful person to contact for additional in-depth information about the tracks around Laos. You will also find uselful information for that region from the RideAsia.net biker community: LINK Bon voyage Keith |

Here you will find the description and GPS positiones of the well known so called "loops" in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia (Mae hong sond loop, golden triangle loop, tha kaek loop, pakse loop etc). Most people rent 125cc bikes to explore them and save the spining costs of their bike but you should be able to do them with an Africa Twin as well: http://schoene-motorradreisen.de/?re..._hong_son_loop Everything took me 4 months. Enjoy the beautiful landscape, Tobi |
Thanks guys, I'll study the links you gave me :)
I'm going to meet Bernie next week, as I will leave my bike to his place for a while. I will probably ask him some advice about the goods places in cambodia; I've seen some amazing picture in his office about offroad in the cardamom mountains ! |
