seeking tour guide through China
Valued Forum,
Can anybody recommend me a (tested) tour guide who gets me on my bike through China ? I am planning to enter coming from Laos and exit into Kyrgyzstan. Any idea about how much money we would be talking ? I expect it to take around 3 - 4 weeks to cover the 5,000 km Thanks Uli |
Not sure if things have changed, but I understood, China is difficult, if not impossible, to bring your own bike into, and then out of. It might have changed in the past couple years, but again, I understood it as not doable!

Own bike into Mainland China is possible but bring a rather large supply of $$$$'s and enough time to sort through all the famous red tape and hurdles China throws at you over and over again...
Easiest and most efficient way, get a Chinese driving license and buy a local made motorbike (250-600cc) in China and sell afterwards. Overseas driving license and international driving permits are still not recognised in Mainland China and might a take while to have that changed.... Good luck ~ safe travels.... |
Thanks so far to all of you
I know about guys here in Singapore who have done it...though with a lot of $$$ ..getting an agent who picked them up from the Laos border, arranging the permits etc.
As the tour will go on after China through STANS, Iran...the option with a Chines bike would not work for me I guess. If it all does not works, I will start the other way around from Europe and reverse once I reach China...but only after all other options are exhausted. Thanks Uli |
Hi Uli,
Can definitely recommend Mr Lun Wang, but he's often booked up. nature_lunwang@hotmail.com We also used info@tibetreisen.com But the guides don't like to camp too much. To be a motorbike alone will be expensive as you will new to pay or a car for the guide. 2 vehicles / 4 weeks is around 7,000 USD, maybe 7.5. We were 2 vehicles and 1 motorbike and paid 9,500 USD. Search this forum for others looking to share guides, I saw a thread or 2 recently. Best if luck Helen Gesendet von meinem iPhone mit Tapatalk |
Hey, I know your looking at crossing from Laos, but if your plans changed at all I'm trying to form a larger group for a Nepal to Kyrgyzstan cross in May/June. I've been in contact with Lun Wang, who wickychicky recommended also. The price gets very reasonable with more people. It goes through Tibet, and is about 18 days. I'll be crossing Myanmar with a group at the end of February. The spend some time in India and Nepal, before doing the cross.

Sent you a PM Ryanvg,
this could work perfect for me joining your group |
