thailand vehicle permit overtime
Hi,
I entered thailand from malaysia on 27-12-2012. I drove around for a month, went to visit cambodia with family without the bike and after this I returned to ride my bike further up North Thaialnd. Thats where I am now. And now I find out the permit for the vehicle is only for 1 month and the fine is huge (600.000 bath). I'm in Loei, close to the Lao border now. My last entry stamp says i'm in Thailand for 12 days now..So maybe i just say I lost the paper and pay the smaller fine (1200 bath I think) Or do they check my license in the computer? So anyone has some advice on how to handle this? tx! |
Hi!
At the Chiang Khong - Huay Xai crossing to Laos they apparently have it on the computer, online. I had some issues there before. I donĀ“t think it would help if you tell them you lost the white paper "temporary import permit". But you don't need to worry all that much. The max penalty for overstaying the permit is 2000 Baht, it does not get higher than that. I know that because a friend of mine has his German - registered BMW in BKK for a full ten years(!!!). He often visits Cambodia on the bike, and every time he gets charged 2000 Baht at the Koh Kong or Poi Pet border. He sometimes has his bike in TH for more than 6 months on his one - month - permit. This 600 000 Baht fine on the permit is I think applicable if you sell the bike illegally. |

Max overstay for a bike is 2000baht so you should have no big issues
I am not sure which border crossing you are attempting but some are closed to foreign bikes Check out Rideasia.net for the latest border crossing info and for all SEA info actually |
tx for the info, I just went to the border and hoped for the best.
I tried to have as much as confusion as possible I told them I lost my paper, gave them my two passports, a carnet de passage and tried to look as dumb as possible. I went to cambodia without the motorbike so I had a stamp in and out and they really didnt understand why that was not in the computer for the motorbike. They start calling and talking for about 1,5 hours and in the end they all start laughing. Their end conclusion..I forgot to go to customs when I entered Thailand from Cambodia. I appologized for that and they said it was ok..."you go now but next time..first immigration then customs"..Off course officer :innocent: End conclusion: read your import form..its only valid for 1 month and to end..we crossed the tha Li border without any problems. Visa on arrival. Temporary import for the motorbike same time as visa. 25000 kip Some people report problems when they tried to enter in a group.. grts |

tx! Ps. anyone knows where to get the extension in Bangkok? (GPS coordinates would be very nice but thats maybe asking too much :)..otherwise I'll get them with google maps) |
the customs office in Bangkok is at :
N 13"42.733' E 100"33.861' I tried to get an extension for my motorbike but it is not possible. The temp vehicle permit can not be longer than your visa. So they advised me to just leave the bike in Bangkok and pay a fine when leaving the country. The maximum fine, like Argus already said, is 2000 bath. |
