Tyres in India
Hello there, does anybody know if I can find tyres for my motorcycle easily in India or should I take with me at least the back one. 21"front 17" back. Thank you.
|
Simple answer: no.
India's got plenty of small 80-220cc bikes, plus Royal Enfields, and they got tyres for them. For other big bikes, who knows, you even might be able to find something in the biggest cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata), but could be a nightmare trying to find them - an Indian city of +10 million people is something you want to avoid when travelling on a motorbike!! If its realistically possible, I would carry my tyres to India. Or you can have them shipped to you, but that wont be cheap. |
Contact a HU community in India - tell them EXACTLY what size or sizes
21" .. but a 2.50 a 3.00 or a 90/90 or a 80/90 ... 17 ... 150 ? 120 ? And a load rating .. a 49 tyre will not hold up a 67 bike for too long!!! And may be you would add some thing along the lines of 50/50 sealed/dirt relationship .. Or even tell them what bike, and what you preferences are .. Contientail TKC80 or Metzler 88 or whatever.. give as much info as you can to teh community and they may respond with "cannot get that tyre here .. but xxx is avalible for yyy. You could get vvv in 2 wekks from HHH " |
Major cities (Delhi, Calcutta, Pune, Mumbai), you should get what you need as there are quite a few bikes here. The 17" tyre should not really be a problem unless you are looking for a specific tyre. The 21" front may be a bit harder to come by (few dual sports here). You could meet a dealer here and tell him that you need the tyre shipped in case you plan to change over to offroad tyres somewhere out of the way.
As your speeds would be lower (than at home), you could also expect less tyre wear. You have not mentioned how long you intend to stay, what you base would be or how far you want to ride. |
Hi there, I am planning a trip from Athens, Greece to Kathmandu, Nepal. It is around 7-8 thousands km going. I was thinking of changing my tyres in Delhi and return back. I own a Bmw Hp2 with 90/90-21 front and 140/80-17. I would prefer TKC 80, but any similar would be nice. Not intend to spend a lot time in Delhi so I would like to know if it is possible to find them. You mention something about shipping them. Why to be expensive? Do you have something in mind? (price, etc). Thanks.

Tyres available in Delhi
Hi there,
If you require tyres or work to be carried out on any big bike then I can highly recommend Delhi's best kept big bike secret. Kaulson Racing Products are the largest importer of big bikes into India and I would be surprised if they cannot help you. They flew my BMW GS1150 from Delhi to Bangkok in January and had tyres to fit. Their details are: Vijay and Vinod Kaul Kaulson Racing Products (KRP) B-101 Nariana Industrial Area - Phase 1 New Delhi 110028 Tel; 011 25893-777/25893-777/3058-7777/6576-7777 Fax; 011 3058-7777 email; Kaulson [AATT] vsnl [DDOOTT] com |
