Visa to Iran - my own motorcycle trip
Hello
I am planning a trip to Iran with my own motorcycle in May. I need some help to find a travel agency for visa invitation. Key2persia was denying my request because they tell me i need a tour guide and a definite itinerary. In other words , i can't enter in Iran with my motorcycle. Please help. Ciprian |

May be it depends on your citizenship.
We got both last year, visa and invitation by the travel agency Iran Visum München | Persepolis Travel Good luck |
Any recent news about entrance with motorcycle? Two agencies replied me today saying that according to the new rule of the MFA i need a guide for entering Iran with my motorcycle. I am Greek so I suppose if the rule is official it's a generic rule and does not depends on citizenship.

I have contacted "Touran Zamin Tour Operator". No mention of tour guide or the like. Cost is EUR75 for a one week turnaround on the invitation letter with the reference number to apply for the visa. I wired the money today.
If you have UK, US or Canada passport you can't escape the guide... Will let you know if there are any problems. |
Hello,
I was in Iran with my motocycle in October. And I didn`t need a guide. If you have a greek passport, I believe it`s the same. Only US, UK and Canadian, may be Australian people need a guide. In the consulate in Munich, I doesn`t need any Invitation letters or any numbers. The only thing was to send the passport to the consulate and pay the fee. Also you need a carnet de passage for the bike. And they ask for an insurance. Regards Wolfgang |
Hello, i have iranian visa in my passport. Please write to overlandtoiran if you want LOI.

Im sure you will find some help here: Caravanistan - The Silk Road Travel Guide
Just dont mention that you get into the country by motorbike and you will get a number. You do not have to lie because in the form it is not asked how you will travel in Iran. Safe trip :scooter: |
Hi,
I have a similiar problem. I have a reference number, but the munich consulate wants me to contact an iranian motorcycle club for a document, I have never heard of. Do you have any clue, where or what I have to do? A friend of mine got his visa 4 weeks ago in Istanbul without such a document. I told the official about that, but he couldn't give me an answer. |
Does nobody ever search this site??
If you tell the inviting organisation and / or embassy that you are planning to enter Iran with a vehicle they can insist that you go with a guide. If you don't tell the inviting organisation / embassy that you plan to enter with a vehicle, they will not ask you to go with a guide. It's pretty simple. |
Thank you for that note. Well, I did a mistake by mentioning my plan...

I got my visa thru an agent palm beach travel n tour

I have done the same mistake of mentioning motorcycle travel in my pre authorization letter and cover letter. Will be visiting embassy coming week to submit my documents.Let's see how it goes with a Indian passport.

You could always say that you don't have the money to pay for a guide an thus change your plans about taking your vehicle into the country. It worked for me to get the visa. We'll see if there's any problems at the border, but I don't expect so.

I try to get the visa in Istanbul. A friend of mine got it there without any problems. This time I will not mention the motorcycle :D
|
Got the visa without any hassles.Embassy folks explicitly told that tour guide not required for Indian passport holders.
Anybody know about motorcycle insurance for IRAN ? Been searching HUBB but not many useful results. Cheers Biru |
Well, I got the Iranian Visa today at the Istanbul Embassy. It was quite easier to get than in munich. They didnt even ask which kind of transportation I will take. I requested 25 days and got 22. A german friend, who also got the visa requested 21 and got 30. doh

I rode to Iran last year (fall 2015) and got through the border crossing (Armenia / Iran) without a problem but was stopped just after the Iranian passport control and told I need a car-net which was to escort me to Tehran and back. Was shown the regulation (translated) which said that motorbikes over 150 cc needed a car-net. I was offered the service for 2000 USD - haggled it down to 1000, and then turned around and rode back out of the country into Armenia. When the border guards who stopped me saw that I would not pay, they did try and negotiate further but I was so frustrated that I left for more pleasant riding in the Caucasus.
I may have hit upon a rogue group of guards - have heard this story before and some sites do mention the need for a car-net if the bike is big. Seems a bit of a hit and miss from what I read on the forums. That was my experience for what its worth. |

Before you applied for your iranian visa in istanbul did you have a letter of invitation? Did you require a tour operator or a guide. How much was your visa? Did you have entry and exit dates? Many thanks Ryan and Lottie Scotland to India 2017 |
