What about Tibet?
Hello everyone,
Does anybody know anything about entering Tibet with a bike? Recently Herbert S.(owner of Touratech) and photographer Michael Martin, both from Germany, spent some time there with there bikes. Does anybody know how they -or anybody else- managed to get in? Saludos, Gonzo |
HI Gonzalo!
Tibet is the most closed area of China, and you need a special permit,as fro the rest of the china, and jeep escort and guard,etc... so it costs a LOT of money! Touratech advertisment, whel thay can aford it,so would i, if i sale a fuel tank for 1380 euros! Been interested in Tibet my self and only resonable way to do it,is on the bicycle, and sneek into it and troughout it,without special permits for groop travelers, wich pay 10 of thousents dollars for it! check out this: A different kind of freedom,by Ray Kreisels http://www.kreisels.com/tibet94/index.htm lovely reading material!!! cheers jondoe |

Info please
|
Yep, seems to be very difficult, and even more costly. Do a search on this forum, and I´m sure you´ll find truckloads of info about this subject.

Contact Chinese tour companies. Expect to pay 4- to 5-digit figures and at least two months lead time. The money goes mostly to the Chinese govt.

Re- Tibet
Hi,
Tibet is possible, just need a group to make the trip cost effective, I looked at Nepal - Tibet - Laos, so that you miss out the airfair for you and the bike, you need around a group of 5 to break even on the price of flights kathmando->Thailand. Takes around 3 months to organise paperwork, with a 21 day trip through china. I am waiting around till june in Nepal/India before i have to leave to thailand, so if anyone is interested in making the numbers work. Andy |

And the total cost of arranging a 3-week trip through Tibet/China? Also have you kept in mind, that there will be costs to arrange entry, and ´normal´ costs inside China, such as fuel, food & accommodation? |
costs of Kat - Bangko
I have recently been looking into this and have got a very rough estimate for one bike KAT - Bangkok airfreight is around $880. then there is of course your airfare. which is around $350..ish!
