What news of Jammu / Kashmir
Meant to be flying out August. Quite a bit of civil unrest and travel advisories against my route of Shringar -> Leh. Anyone on the ground with any knowledge?

Just one thread is enough. I have deleted the others.

Sorry matey getting a bit panicky!

I left Srinigar just a few days before Burhan Wani was killed (came from Leh/Kargil/Zanskar). We could already see a significant military build up but no one harassed tourists. I don't know whether the area is under lockdown now (i imagine it is) but to get up to date info contact people running the Swiss Hotel in Srinigar which is also excellent for overlanders: https://www.facebook.com/swisshotel.kashmir2 . Good luck!

Thanks Vanshar!

We are in Pokhara Nepal at the moment and will be heading toward Kashmir tomorrow, will probably takes us 3 days to get to the Nepal/India border then we'll probably spend around 3 weeks in the Kashmir area. Haven't heard of any significant issues aside from internet/mobile outtages presuming you are taking reasonable precautions. We'll be doing the usual loop, happy to report back here how it goes.

Sorry for the late reply, got held up in Delhi waiting for Chinese visas. Past through Srinagar 2 days ago. Made a full report here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...926#post547120
A bit of nervousness through Srinagar but overall the most amazing and enjoyable part of our trip so far. We did Manali to Leh, Leh to Nubra Valley including Turtuk and the river road to Pangong Tso, back to Leh, then to Kargil and Sonamarg, then Srinagar and Amritsar. Read the other post for warnings but aside from Srinagar (sketchy) and Amritsar (just another piece of India), the other places I mentioned I would highly recommend seeing :thumbup1: Have a great trip :) Tig |
