Which 125cc Bike For Scotland To Australia Trip?
Hi all, I'm looking for a bike to use for a trip I'm planning from Scotland to Australia. I'm looking for something cheep (max £1500 but preferably less), low power (probably 125cc) as I'm a new rider, and easy to fix/ find parts for. I was thinking of buying a Honda CG125 as they fit the bill for all of my requirements.
Any other ideas? cheers. |
I think any Honda will do. Solid, reliable, economical and sold and serviced in most countries around the globe.
I would have had a look at the CT125 Hunter Cub but apparently its not imported to the UK. Nathanpostman have a few I think - if he havent got rid of them lately. |

I'd look at any Japanese trailie, at that end of the price bracket you might be able to get a XT125.
Note that most 125s you'll get that cheap will need a proper rebuild before heading off on a very long trip like that, a proper strip back to the frame and have the head off the engine to make sure all is in order, new bearings, new chain etc etc. I watched a video of a couple going down Africa on CG125s a little while back and IIRC they only got as far as France before one of them had major mechanical problems because the bike wasn't well prepped, and they had to fly back to the UK to get parts because nobody near where they were in France had the bits in stock. It follows to ask, if you can't afford to buy a good bike to start with, how are you going to afford to travel? |

Once or twice I've got lost or overshot a turnoff by 100km then found a seriously windy back road to get back to where I should have been - the bike has handled 134 hairpin bends back to back wwith ease. I know it's not 125cc but give it a test ride, prepare to be surprised. For reference as to what I expect from a bike, I ride a BMW F650GS Dakar back in Scotland. Pics are the bike with my luggage and view from my hotel this morning, a map showing where I am, and some interesting bits. One pic there shows you the elevation that bike has climbed,, and it did it with lugggage. Given that I'm at McLeod Ganj, in the Himalayas on a 155cc bike must say something about it's capabilities. Albeit rather bumpy it handles offroad ok too, balance is good. If you're planning to go through India, choose a line and hold your nerve, it gets really tight at times. I overtook a bike that then swerved towards me to miss a parked bike while a white car approaching me was overtaking a bus. A black jeep behind them decided no-one was going fast enough so it overtook the white car. A two lane road with 6 vehicles side by side.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a5f7bd8501.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6b587850fa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...777a7d12f5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...25e0e378ff.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...938c50e11a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b442b31bae.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e963450e80.jpg Sent from my SM-G990E using Tapatalk |
