Perhaps other bikes also, all badged to a specific branding. Much like Matchless and AJS of 50 years ago. |
Another test in issue 1 of Rust magazine (TBM relaunched)

very interesting indeed .
Both the bike and the - honest - report . I had seen the mash , the road one . Read about the engine, former honda copy and so on . Unfortunately doh , I found a good second hand DRZ with 4000 k' o' clock only which I rode in morocco pistes . The bike was better really on tracks, bumps, rocks, deep sand than the pilot, not trained enough . My last experience was with a XT on a big trip and a tenere ( first model , heavy as a gs ...almost :oops2:) You can imagine the difference !!! Still a big marge of progress for me ... Of course, not very good on road . So this 400 will be perfect for me in a new RTW if i make one . air cooling - simpler for everything, like fixing the valves ( big work on a DRZ ) fully prepared - i wont take the hard saddles ... like better the GLoop coyote and less weight and scale cheap ? I dont know exactly . For a major trip surely there will be other opportunities, like a DL but , on this one , my old knowledge of the unbeatable XT will work !! Will try one if I can ... |
The price of the WK Trail has dropped to a much more realistic £2500 in the UK (+ boxes) and there's one on ebay uk today: 170 miles, £2050 ono with boxes, bars, etc (so it says). Much more like it.
I spent a day on a Mash 400 (same motor) last year. Nice enough, but the motor (the part I was most interested in, not the mock Bonnie styling) felt no more powerful than my CRF250L or KLX250. In France the Mash Adventure (equivalent of the WK Trail) still goes for €4900 - good luck to them at that price. Interested to try the SWM 440s which are now out in the UK - but costing £5k. More retro styling but could the same bored-out Shineray motor be an adv contender? |
SWM have an "adventure" bike due out. No details yet though. I doubt the price will be at a level to encourage testing of the Chinese motor though.
Any idea why their website is in American? Andy |
If SWM have a 440 in the pipeline (to be expected) like you say, it won't be any sort of bargain at the current 440 prices, and unlikely to be slashed like WK in UK have done.
If you mean weights etc, it is annoying. I recall you can read in metric, but only on the native Italian page. |
