Bight to Gulf Ride started today, WR250 to small for long distance?

I see guys often ask is a 250 to small for long distance?

I follow Safari Tanks Australia on Facebook, they have equipped four WR250`s with their big tanks & have applied "retro" graphics to celebrate Yamaha 60 years.

The idea is to ride from the bottom of Aussie to the top in the shortest route, day one is today, Ceduna to Coober Pedy.

No affiliation Grant (im sure you know that) just thought it was interesting. :thumbup1:

Baby Tenere`s

I didn’t notice the side tanks originally, great place to fit them, nothing on the website though?

Would be nice to know the total fuel capacity, and if those graphics are available.

The site says,

"The bikes have been fitted with new Safari Tanks, which will increase the riding distance of the bikes to around 600km before a refuel is needed"

And from looking at the pictures it seems they have a pair of side tanks (left/right)

The main Safari tanks looks the same as their 14 litre version, but they have some sort of rally fairing fitted too, not sure on the side tanks, must be a new product they are trying out. Im generally not a fan of any sort of fairing - more guff to break, a small screen would be more than adequate on the WR-R

Im guessing its a new product that fits the tank, for years the DR650 lads were screaming for a matching fairing & so they made one HERE.

Im guessing they have done the same with the WR250? anyone know?

Im a fan of the DR650`s & the XT600`s but after fanging around on a 250 Yammy im convinced its they way forward, OK so they are not massive on power & only suited for one person, but whey easier to get out of trouble in the sticky stuff & picking up.

Mezo, I agree, small and light is the way to go, I used to have a TTR250 years ago, great little bike. I nearly bought a used 2013 WR250R a few months ago, Im just waiting for the right bike to turn up and fit a better seat, bigger tank and a few modifications it will be a lot of fun.
