Cruiser Confusion
Hey all.
I just sold my 72 Enfield Bullet after 20 years. It was running so fine! Didn't think I would ride again, BUT, as we all know, it's in the blood. Trying to decide what to get next as my main source of transportation. I'm traveling now in Asia but will be back in usa by the end of the year. I want something for running around town in Florida, ie flat, hot and straight. But I want to be able to saddle up and head for Montana in the mountains carrying camping gear and the rest. 10k trip for two or three months every summer. Highway driving, no scrambling. I'm 67 now... I've been looking at used Vulcans, honda cb500, Burgman but nothing seems to fit. Want to strap a duffle bag of camping gear on a rear rack, and panniers for the rest. 6 speed transmission should be necessary. Any and all recommendations will be gladly appreciated. Thanks Mitchell |
Is the Honda ADV350 coming to the US?
That would be ok I reckon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
My vote is for a Burgman with knobblies :)
Something like another Bullet would be easier on your back than a cruiser, maybe one of the more retro Japanese bikes would be to your liking since they have 6 speed gearboxes? |
Burgs are fun. I rode my GS around Oz and then a year later my Burg250.
The Burg was just as much fun lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
650 V-Strom would be worth a close look. Lots of versions, various options, inexpensive, super reliable, and very capable of all you describe.
And BTW - you're still plenty young - lots here are much older than you. :) Do what works for you, and don't let a number manage your life. |
Thanks Grant. The age was mentioned due to recently discovered recovery time from a spill in Northern Thailand!
Numbers indeed do not manage my life...even the bank account... The Burgmans look too small as far as riding comfort. Feet seem to be tucked too far back for an enjoyable 8 hour day. Honda ADV 350, not yet. But, I'm not sure It would be good for hours on the highway in the US. No, I can't go for another Bullet. 20 years, first and only bike. I want Japanese this time around. Was looking at a Vulcan 900, but it doesn't quite fit either. Thanks for the replies. I will be checking out the 650 v Strom on you tube now, thanks. |
Well if u like the Enfield brand and want a cruiser , why not try the new 650 cruiser they have released.......think its called the meteor ? Not sure if u can get it stateside mind . It gets some really good reviews and the new engines are a peach .
As for off road.......who knows , ucould b the first to try . Plus it's cheap:mchappy: |
I've only ever ridden a 650 Burgman, and that had a spot for my feet that was like cruiser highway pegs, lol

What’s you limitation? Seat height? Weight/pickupability on your own?
Based on just your stated goals, honestly I can sorta see a Gold Wing in your future. |
