A 125cc is a good choice! I'm currently riding a CRF250L around Africa (roughly circumnavigating anticlockwise from Morocco).
In West Africa, some countries are alive with 125/150/200 cc bikes. Mostly Asian imports. I've seen Honda CB125s and XL125s in some places; both on the road/trail and for sale in show rooms. I reckon you'll find parts and mechanics who know the bike; however, I'd recommend doing your own work! |
I’m also riding a Crf250l down the west coast next year. Although a part of me really fancied doing it on a monkey bike. The main reason that I’m not going to is that I’m riding with a guy on a tiger 800. There’s a guy that’s done it on a Vespa including a not entirely successful attempt at Kinshasa to Lumbumbashi!!!

I have travelled quite a lot on an XR125/150 including with a passenger and they are great bikes for the job especially in developing countries where the traffic does not move as quickly.
