KLR650c got hit, leaving for Africa in Jan!Xt600 or XT660z?

Okay I had a lovely 2002 Klr650c that got hit by a car while it was parked and it broke its yokes. Got them fixed but to cut a long story short after going to four different mechanics it is still not sparking. Now I am forced to leave that bike as I am leaving for Africa in January and will need time to sort out a the paper work for a new bike.

A bit confused on what to take. A 15 year old air cooled, simple and not at all flashy Xt600 that will do well in the sand or a relatively new, comfy, relatively complicated and flashy Xt660z Tenere. Both have there positives, I am just worried that the xt660z is too heavy. Both have the advantage of being relatively well known in the UK with ample spare parts available in the market. Had severe trouble finding parts for the old KLR in the UK. Let me know what you think!

Oh crappy story man! 4 mechanics and no fix?! Too bad this happened. Can't give any advice on the bikes but hopefully the one you go with won't get hit:)

Fortune and Glory, kid. Fortune and Glory.

Have just recently done a almost 30 k km run from Europe to southeast-Asia on a XT660Z. And although the bike is rugged and have been almost bulletproof all the way, its a heavy beast loaded up with gear. No doubt about that.

If youre going to do a lot of offroad and sandy, tracky and rutted parts I would hae considered something lighter.

Just got an Xt600e 2003 with 4500miles on it :). Going to put on Acerbis 23l tank, a screen and a skid plate and then I am off in January! I hope this one doesnt get hit!
