Oh dear, looks like a right dogs dinner. Looks like BMW are following other manufacturers and placing style over function. The cast wheels would indicate it's an off road 'style' bike rather than off road bike. Still how many of the current 1150's ever see dirt. The new KTM looks, at least on the face of it, a far better bike to go RTW. Still I'll stick to my 'Airhead' for our trip to Oz this year.

Hi!

Can someone please explain to me the diference betwin cast and spoke wheels for use on bikes, why on must use a spoked one?

I have expiriance with fixing a spoked wheel on a bicycle, when I hited some serius potholes on the road.
But all so had a case when my friend demaged a alloy whell on his dad's shiney Audi, when he hited a curbe and seriusly demaged a wheel and couse tire to deflate.
But whith my help and a hammer from tools in my car we hamered it to place before his feather showed up,and saw a deflated tire.
We said it had a puncture, but when he got it to the service to repair that was nothing wrong with it,and he never suspected or noticed enything!!!He was really lucky to flag me down, and my all mighty HAMMER, an encredible pice of tool,is it!

cheers

I'm not an expert in wheels, but I think a spoked wheel can absorbe greater shocks due to the inherent flexibility of the steel spokes (steel is more flexible than aluminum). The aluminum cast wheels would be too rigid for serious off-roading.
Though for gravel roads and such, both wheels are fine.
The cast wheels probably fit a tubeless tire and I'm not sure you can run such a tire with low pressure for sand.
