New Suzuki Drz400 S+SM

Another big news from EICMA is the new Suzuki Drz400 model line up. Well - not a whole lot have changed, but the engine has got EFI, bike got new screen and riding modes. 38 HP and 36 NM og tourqe. 8,7 liter petrol tank. But still only a 5 speed gearbox. Weight not clear yet - but the reviewer mention a wet weight just north of 150 kilos….

What are your thoughts guys and gals….?

Used to be termed dual sport didn't it? For sure it'll fill a niche, though it's a niche that's already well filled by other manufacturers. Whether the DRZ donkey can still compete remains to be seen. Curiously, one of the main attractions of the old bike - its simplicity - is no more.

One thing it's not though, is an adventure bike, not with an 8,7L tank.

Eh - not an adventure bike indeed! I dislike the term «adv-bike» and try to use it as little as possible. Travel bike, Overland bike etc are much better terms imho. Dual sport in this case is a good term.

Acerbis and others will probably make a bigger aftermarket petrol tank soon I suppose…

If they only could make a Rally edition of this bike with 15-18 liter petrol capacity and a 6 speed gearbox…

I've got a couple of DRZ400s

I'd been looking forward to an update for about twenty years like everyone else.

It's pretty much the same engine as the older model. So five speed. Pretty dissapointing.

But now proper upside down forks (unknown quality) and Fuel injection. It will certainly be more economical.

But HEAVIER. Not good.

The original DRZ400 still seems the better option here. Very simple bike with good power, good suspension and proven reliabilty. And easily made more powerful and capable.
