R9T GS Urban (AKA the Turban)

Bought one second hand over here (Middle East). So far I'm generally very pleased albeit with a couple of caveats.
Good: Nice engine, torque, stomp. Good 'real road' bike, the nose fairing works well up to 80 mph then it gets a bit tiring . Handles well given the budget suspenders. Reasonable tank range. Well made. Good looker. Character ;) Could do better: Suspension: Archaic damper rod forks and the rear shock is oversprung. I'll fit a slightly longer rear shock with the correct spring rate at some point, and new fork springs and emulators. Ergo's: It's a stretch over the tank and the seat is too low and hard. I've fitted bar risers, rolled the bars back, fitted a foot peg lowering kit and a seat pad and sheepskin. Now I don't get cramp or backache. Recommended. |
I love them.
I used to test ride them a lot. I always thought about how it would be as a travel bike. I determined it was a weekend fun bike. Maybe a bit of light camping. Great fun though and they look cool bier |
I'll let you know how she holds up when I ride it back from Saudi. Will take longer than a weekend though ;)
I rode a W650 from the UK to Helsinki then down to Germany, Belgium and Austria. I like riding long distances on bikes like these. |
