Southern Africa CHEAP
Hi all,
I'm planning to go on a three months trip through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana (and maybe on to Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique). My plan is to go there, buy a bike, do my thing, and if possible sell the bike at the end. I'm still trying to figure out the whole thing, and have absolutely no idea of what would be the best bike for me... My budget is about 1000€ for the bike: Which new bikes are available for that price? (cheap chinese or indian bikes, but will they hold up?) Do you know if 2nd hand bikes for that price could be reliable (I'm not very experienced, so a good salesman will be able to sell me crap)? What would you recommend or how would you do it? I'm also in the dark on the equipment I need to carry my stuff, but I'll look into older posts for that first... Thank you very much! Quentin |
I know a new Honda XR125 is about US$2,100 in SA and a quality bike, from what I have seen of them Chinese bikes are rubbish and best avoided but others might know different about particular models. If buying second hand take somebody along with you who knows what they are looking at. Any of the small Japanese trail bikes will be suitable, check you travel insurance cover, it might have exclusions for bikes above 125cc.
