The intention is to lighten/lift the front wheel over, sometimes, bloody big and deep washed out gullies, once the front's safely over the back can sort its self out (helped by good off-road suspension). Failure to lift/dropping the front in is usually followed by nads hitting tank just before face hits road.

I just Remembered the movie One Crazy Ride ( Dirt Track Productions - One Crazy Ride ) which is a great example of NOT needing an adventure bike. 5 friends trying to find a road across North-East India that everyone claims does not exist. Lots of bumpy dirt, no fancy farkles, and not a single adventure bike in the bunch.

Surprisingly good film, and downloadable at iTunes in addition to good old DVD.

Let us know how you got on in Morocco. I am also using what I have, taking my 13 year old Suzuki GS500 to Nigeria. In my opinion, there is no point in buying a new bike just for a trip and suffer afterwards in the city traffic or twisties in the weekends or whereever you spend you biking days otherwise. Plus there is the question of equipping the new bike with luggage, tyres, spare parts etc.
Just do as it was said, ride wherever you can and if you feel the need for it, rent a bike or join in to a group tour. I might do the same.

Hi Phil, how are your plans going? I would love to do a trip down to Morocco at some stage, so it would be great to meet up somewhen to get some pointers from you. Brazen, I know, but 'shy bairns' and all that :biggrin3:

I've been gleaming information from HUBB and tour group sites regarding tours in Morocco. It seems there are plenty of tarmac roads to play with. I bought a map and a guide book on Monday and have been busy plotting. But I don't wish to travel alone. I found a few group tours but they are at least £1500+ ranging from 2-3 weeks.

I ride the big brother bike to the 600 - the cbf1000 - so am keen to stick to tarmac too. Currently pondering on April / May 2011 being the ideal time to go.

Lots of interesting places see without going off road or with groups.

I remember seeing a circular route outlined for a motorhome and caravan tour using a mix of hotels and campsites of Morocco on the Camping and Caravanning Club site, so, if a caravan can go there, I'm sure a bike could :scooter:
