XT600E - What is this thing capable of doing?
I have just returned to bikes after a 10 year gap (partner finally managed to convince me that bikes were dangerous). I have recently procured a Yamaha XT600E (2000 Model), with only 5,000 on the clock. Everything looks in order and the bike looks lovely. I was wondering what this thing is capable of in terms of touring? I have a mate with a Triumph Tiger who often goes touring around Europe, am I likely to be able to keep up on my new toy or not?
What a fantastic resource this forum is! I have spent hours reading hundreds of extremely interesting threads... |

In a word and IMO, no. But it doesn't matter - they are different beasts for different purposes. (There are lots of posts in here that compare bikes, in any number of ways, so I won't bother going over all that again; sounds like you have found some of it already!). I suggest you especially read up on how to correctly check the oil level and keep an eye on that if riding at fast speeds for long duration. |
what is it NOT you mean?

But, on the other hand, you will severley kick his ass Offroad! on the dirt, on green lanes, in the mud, on rocky tracks, on deep gravel....... As for what is it Capable of doing? well...... Is Round The World enough for you? It will go anywhere there is a road, anywhere there is not a road really..... in fact the Long Way Round/Down Boys would have been better off IMHO on an XT600 then a lardy great BMW1200GS. Martyn |
I reckon I paid a bit over the odds for it (£1,600) but I knew the person who purchased it new in 2000 and it had an easy life of only 5,000 miles. It's pretty too. I can't wait to get the polishing rag out once the good weather arrives! Seems it was a sensible idea to pick an XT? Thanks for replying...
All the very best Neil |
about right....

Pretty??? Get some DIRT ON IT! then it will look even Prettier! Congratulations Neil, you have probably bought the most sensible First bike ever, and one you probably wont ever want to get rid of. or will regret it if you do. Martyn |
Yeah I realise it's a dirt bike too but I'm afraid I'm one of those sad individuals who polish the thing more than I ride it!
