1985 XT600 (Tenere) Front Sprocket

I have just fitted a new genuine Yamaha 15T front sprocket and new genuine sprocket holder to my 1985 XT600 (55W).

There's a fair bit of play in the sprocket even though it's clamped up tight. If the sprocket is pushed at 6pm & pulled at 12pm then the sprocket moves. It's as though the sprocket holder isn't thick enough for the slot it goes in and so even though it's clamped against the sprocket face, the assembly can still move back and to within the slot.

Is it normal to have a bit of float on the sprocket or should it lock tightly with no movement?

Cheers
Gary

Not sure on your exact model, but it was quite common for Honda's to have "slack" sprox at the gearbox..... with a fair bit of play ! And they must know what they're doing.

Both my 550 & 600 have that same bit of play....

Think it's down to the perverbial "They're supposed to do that" catagory.:mchappy:
