1985 XT600N "Air Filter Fitment"
5 Attachment(s)
I removed the Air Filter that was in the Air Box, Cleaned the Filter (looks like it needs a new Foam Filter Sock) and Cleaned Out the Air Box.
The Air Filter does Not Fit Snug against the Top of the Air Intake Box. There are No Part numbers on the Air Filter Could the Air Filter be the Wrong Air Filter for this bike? Is the piece that the Air Filter slides Onto Damaged? I am trying to figure out if the previous owner installed the wrong sized Air Filter for this bike or if that piece the Air Filter slides onto is damaged in some way? I have added a few pictures of the Air Filter & Air Intake Box showing the issue. |

I was able to get in contact with a man in Monroe WA. who specializes in Old Motorcycles.
He looked up my bike on an old Micro Fische and discovered that there is a Clip that goes in between the bottom of the air filter and that Long Flat black Plastic Piece in my Air Box. (if I understood him correctly) He called me a couple hours later and said he had found one of those Clips in his old motorcycle parts storage area, so I paid him and that Clip is on its way to Portland Oregon |
Yes thats correct.

Those clips are made out of Unabtanium , your lucky to have found one. Out of 6 Xt's I've bought as complete bikes only 2 had those clips , and I lost 1 when testing a bike with the cover off. The cover holds them in place but I had something wedged in to stop that figuring I was only going 1/2 mile down and 1/2 mile back it would be fine ,but...... I eventually found another but had to buy a whole airbox to get it . The others I've made a wood wedge that slides in and pushes the filter into place and the cover holds it there . I also put a thick bead of airfilter seal grease up on top to make sure there is a good seal .
