1986 xt 600 not charging help needed
 

hello all, my son has a 1986 xt 600.
the bike does not charge.
today I put in a fresh battery and changed the voltage regular off my 1984 xt 600
that does charge.

checked the voltage at the battery while running at idle it was like 12 volts
and reved it up to like 3thousand rpm and it was still only like 12 volts.

my 84 puts out almost 14 volts.

suggestions or ideas?

Hi, try this fault finding diagram.

The electrics fault finder is great. My 1990 wasn't charging and I traced it to a bad Regulator/Rectifier, which I replaced with a MOSFET controlled FJR1300 R/R. Now it works great.
