1991 3aj
 

Hi guys I've just bought a 3AJ tonight which is a bit of a mystery. It was registered in September 1991 & according to DVLA was manufactured in 1991 too. (didnt know they made em then)
It was dark when I picked it up but from what I could see the right hand switchgear is different (to the usual 3AJ) it appears to have a 3TB engine fitted, seems to have steel wheels, the rear hub looks different & the swinging arm is chromed... oh the indicators are different too.
Of course all of this could have been changed but the PO doesn't think so (he seems genuine) he bought it off his dads boss who had it from new, he'd had it stolen and recovered about 3 years ago, he bought it back off the ins co but couldn't start it so he left it for a couple of years until the PO bought it, he hasn't been able to start it either, says the blokes who nicked it ruined the loom so he bought a new one (3AJ) it didn't fit so he went back to the shop & they said he needed a 3TB loom, that doesn't fit either.
I'm wondering didn't they change the ign systems when the 600E came out??
Anyone ever seen a 3AJ this late ??

If it is a later model motor you could need a TCI and associated wiring not the CDI ignition that is on the 3AJ.

3TB def
 

This is definitely a 3tb engine, TCI (= NOT CDI) box and TCI system wires from the alternator. So, It seems someone did convert most of to 3TB, but for the starting / running part.

Get a electrical diagram for the 3TB annd check any and all ... my recommendation.

yeah, thanks for that, thats what I've been thinking..... so I seem to have 3TB engine, wiring harness, tci box & ign coil... what else am I gonna need?

I suppose I could wire this bike just like a 600E & modify the wiring for the headlights etc...

So 600E wiring diagram required.

I'm guessing the 3TB engine was the original 600E lump, when did they stop using it??

I've got a superb colour wiring diagram for the 3AJ, could do with one for the 3TB now, can anyone point me in the right direction to download one ?
