1991 XT600 Purchase?
Hi guys, a question for all the XT600 enthusiasts. My cousin is looking at a 1991 ex-Australian Army with 50,000 kilometres on the clock, for about $2,000.00 . He is attracted by the price and size as he is about 6 foot five inches and quite strong ( a farmer ) and perhaps weighs abou 95 kilos.
Whilst acknowledging the reputation of these bikes, it is quite high mileage and old; as a runabout on the farm is this a good idea? Are there any specific issues to this model that we need to look closely at. I've ask my cousin to look at a bigger budget and a newer bike such as the Suzuki DR400 as well. All advice appreciated. Thanks Shane |
I have seen in the the army, how Military equipment is treated or abused if you will. "Ride it like you stole it", and no major service before break down.
Therefore I would personally don't touch a ex army bike with this amount of km´s It also seems a bit pricey, but i don't have a clue about the Australian price level. Or the Australian army. On the other hand, the XT 600 is quit strong and base on stone-age technology. And it is easy to fix if something is wrong. 50kkm is normally not a problem for the engine if it treated nicely. But expect rear swing arm assembly to be worn. And exhaust system to be rusted away. |
I'm wondering for a year or so, looking at these bikes, is it possible to ship one to Europe? And if it is, how much would that be? :confused1:
