1993 xt600 Needs bigger tank

I have a 1993 xt600 ea or eac and I live in the US, and I need an oversized fuel tank, can't find one at internet retail site or ebay for a 1993. Assistance would be appreciated.

So, I realize that thread is related, but I would like some clarification. Would an Acerbis tank from 95-02 work on the 93 with just minor fitting? I am also not real clear on the differences between the xt600e, xt600ea, and xt600eac.

Jens Eskildsen 3 Oct 2014 17:13

No....sorry.

walter724339 3 Oct 2014 21:06

So... again, anyone with suggestions as to where I might find a larger fuel tank for the 93 in th US, please help.

Lambeth says: Can also fit 1989-1995 XT600E 3TB model with simple modifications to bike - please email or phone for details.

Send mail and ask what to do Yamaha XT600E 4PT DJ02 96-06 Acerbis 23Litre Long Range Overland Expedition Tank | eBay

Jens Eskildsen 4 Oct 2014 19:30

Seat, tank, sidecovers, and rear fender is different on 4pt....Please post detaisl regarding how to modify the bike to suit the newer style tank. I think it would help a lot of folks out there...

jjrider 5 Oct 2014 14:14

US models are quite different than European models, I doubt Lambeth has even tried to fit on US models so I wouldn't trust it. He will gladly sell one though, don't bother trying to return it though.

WHat is different on the US models, same parts selling for them all?

Sounds like harsh words, you must not have dealt with David...

He is an honest man and is very knowledgable of the xt so Im sure he is aware of the 'US version' if there is one. He wouldnt sell you parts that may not fit your vehicle and is very helpful with any questions you may have.

He has a reputation to uphold why would he sell you things that wont work??

jjrider 6 Oct 2014 02:01

Actually I did deal with him , I can't say anything good about him, thus my words. It involved selling stuff that didn't fit US bikes and he wouldn't stand behind them. Lets just say international sales are not a concern of his. I won't go into it any farther here.

The thing I'd be concerned with is any frame changes between countries. I have a German 3tb wiring harness and a US harness and quite a few of the locations for parts are at a different place between the two so mounting locations are different. Makes me wonder if parts of the frame is also. I think the US would be closest to the 2NK (or 2NF, whichever one was Europe's first e-start model)

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 13 Oct 2014 13:33

Well, Walter does the 95 and up tank fit the 90-94 XT? We have inquiring minds and want to know. And maybe do the same thing. THUMPTHUMP

walter724339 13 Oct 2014 19:37

I have no idea... that's why I'm inquiring myself, I suspect I'll end up buying one and seeing if there is any way to make it fit, I have a long cold winter ahead of me to try to retrofit it, and then I'll share the results, unless I find out sooner from someones personal experience

Why not buy the one that fits?

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 14 Oct 2014 00:49

I have not found anyone who actually has one to sell. Acerbus only has the 23 ltr tank for the 95 and up. THUMPTHUMP

Thanks for the post but my computer choked on trying to translate that. I am in the US and after you convert to dollars and ad shipping it would probably cost more than the bike did. I need a US distributer to make it a realistic possibility for me. THUMPTHUMP

Ok, isnt 238euro normal price for a tank like that? Here is the mail adress if anyone wish to contact them info@autoprobeg.com.ua

Jens Eskildsen 14 Oct 2014 09:09

Soeh, you want a tank you cannot find, and dont wanna pay for it, when you do? :innocent:

Theres no cutting corners on this one :D

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 14 Oct 2014 14:43

Wow, You guys are tough. The tank is about $302.00 in US dollars. I sent a email [thanks xtrock] and asked about shipping cost. We'll see if they respond. But, based on the rates I see on Ebay from Europe it is almost the price of the product. Until then I will stop every 100 miles or so and fill up with $3.09 a gallon gas. How much you guys pay a gallon ? THUMPTHUMP

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 14 Oct 2014 15:08

Well, the email address failed to go through. Any suggestions? Do I need to add something to get it to Europe from here? THUMPTHUMP

ddixon4067 15 Oct 2014 04:55

I've spent weeks trying to find a larger tank for a 1991 XT 600 with no luck. I've scoured message boards, contacted Acerbis, Clarke Manufacturing and Just Gas Tanks.com directly. All lead me to the same dead end: There's no tank for the XT 600 in the 90-94 range. I'm with you - hoping someone has retro-fitted a larger aftermarket tank and is willing to share how-to details. I'll keep searching.

Zergman 15 Oct 2014 07:15

I've fitted this tank to my 1993 XT 600.
It had original Acerbis front mounting hardware, fits no problem.

jjrider 15 Oct 2014 15:17

Again, European model , not US so that doesn't mean they'll fit , however there are some good pics of the frame in that thread so someone with the US model should study the 2 and see if much is different, could very well be the same.

Yes this tank is made for 90-95, but what they are asking is if the 95-00 tank wil fit with modification. Because the old tank is hard to find.

Zergman 15 Oct 2014 19:05

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't everything fit from the newer model to an older? (from 4PT to 3TB)
As far as I've read you can use 4PT fairings/tank/seat on a 3TB, but you need the whole set: gas tank, seat, side fairings, tail piece...

Jens Eskildsen 15 Oct 2014 20:42

Exactly....

Is the rear end of the frame the same? One difference is the extra support on the right side up to the top frame, same as the 3TB have on the right side. Is the mounting for tank same and have the same distance front/rear?

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 15 Oct 2014 23:28

I would just need it to fit the frame and match up to the seat fairly well. I do not run the side panels or air box. THUMPTHUMP

Honestly with your setup i think its no problem, the seat on the 4TP is much higher in front. Worst case get a cheap 4PT seat and you know it all fit.

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 15 Oct 2014 23:58

I have only seen 1 95 and up seat for sale in the last 2 years . Its in Europe and shipping doubles the fairly high price. Since they did not sell any here they would all be from Europe. Heck I run a large wolfman tank bag. It covers the front of the seat. As long as the length of the tank is the same it could work out . Would any body with a 95 and up tank measure from the rear mount 10mm hole to the center of the rubber covered side knobs that the tank slides over? The frame. THUMPTHUMP

Yes i know its really difficult to find used parts for the 4PT, on the 3TB its 32cm from front mount to rear tank mount, and its 26cm from front mount to middle of front seat upper part.Or about 6cm from back mount to seat middle upper part.

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 16 Oct 2014 17:04

Thanks XTROCK, I have the 3tb and it matches yours except the 6cm . I have not matched that one. Perhaps I miss understood the reference points. Now I need those measurements from the 95-and up xt600. Or better yet some one with both bikes. Will your 95 tank fit the 90 bike? THUMPTHUMP

Jens is the man for this job! I wonder how the 4pt rear fender top is mounted, only by the handles?

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 17 Oct 2014 02:55

I talked with the just gas tanks people. They didn't know anything. They did not have one to measure. They called Acerbus to ask them to measure and the lazy basterds would not do it and just said it would not fit, too many differences. I just wanted a measurement to see if it would bolt onto the frame. So my only alternative is someone out there. Any one have a 95 and up to measure or better yet a 90-94 and a95 and up to see if it would fit? THUMPTHUMP

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 17 Oct 2014 03:40

I found a seat for the 95 and up in Italy. $120.00 for the seat in rough condition but shipping is $198.. An example of the shipping cost more than the product. That's why I need a domestic vender. If the 95 and up tank would fit , its $256 with free shipping.THUMPTHUMP

Jens Eskildsen 17 Oct 2014 16:45

I've got a 3tb bike that im flipping, so I can compare a 1990-1995 model, to a 1996-2003 model.... :scooter:

But work takes the majority of my spare time (dont it always) theese days, give me a couple of days, and I'll take pictures of seats and gastanks.

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 17 Oct 2014 23:06

Sounds Great! Can't wait, well I guess I'll have to. Thanks, Jens THUMPTHUMP

I dont see any problem fitting the seat, i would think it wil become a gap between tank and seat. Bacardi knows, send him a message.

Jens Eskildsen 2 Nov 2014 09:57

Heres pictures.

Why? this shows that you can use the acerbis 4pt thank on the 3tb if you dont mind the gap from seat to tank.

Toast 2 Nov 2014 15:17

What measurements do you need? I got beyond lucky and found the Acerbis tank for my 3tb one town over.

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 3 Nov 2014 13:50

I was thinking about that. I use a wolfman tank bag and it covers that gap. THUMPTHUMP

Jens Eskildsen 4 Nov 2014 16:53

I think they're too far of to be usable, but each to his own.

The 1990-95 acerbis gastanks still pop up on ebay from time to time.

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 5 Nov 2014 03:35

Maybe over there but it would be extremely rare in the US. To ship one here from there seems to double the price. Bummer. THUMPTHUMP

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 5 Nov 2014 23:03

plan B, Acerbus has a tank available for a 1998-1004 tt 600. From the pictures , the seat notch in back is shorter and rounder than the 1995 and up tank. It looks to be a better match for the shape of the 1990-1995 600e sold in the US. Anyone have access to a TT600 that age to check the seat fit from a 3TB? THUMPTHUMPTHUMP

Jens Eskildsen 6 Nov 2014 18:57

I've got a tank, but not sure if its from the tt or the ttr(e)

Will have a look sometime soon, and update the thread.

THUMPTHUMPTHUMP 7 Nov 2014 03:45

That would be great Jens. I can get a 20 ltr. tt tank from Acerbus for about $250 in the US. THUMPTHUMP
