def not silencer, more top end/barrel are but shes a noisy engine so its hard to tell.going back to an earlier question of mine how do i check/set correctly, the engine timing.as i said she runs when hot but think a check wouldnt hurt.

Your sneezing ... get to a doctor, fast! This might be the superflu!

I'd recommend to ignore it, there are other things that are far easier to diagnose and to correct.
Following the track of lean running; the combustion is too slow, so when the inlet valves open combustion is still going on, which backfires (softly at idle) into the carb. -> Solve the lean running and the sneeze goes away.

That was my first line of thinking, but the only instance I have seen of this the carbs tended to blow off as a result. And it weren't no sneeze. More like an bloody big pop. But if it is the head end, not much else it can be.

Yep, pop back thru the carby means lean or bad timing, but it sure sounds lean. Those carb blocks/spacers could induce that if they are letting in air, which will in turn mess up the rest of the idle circuit. That and the idle mixure setting shopuld be checked.

As per your workshop manual - you've got one?

Align all the relevant marks on the camshaft and the flywheel with the camchain in correct tension and it should be set OK.

aukeman youve confirmed what i suspected but didnt know if that could happen.cheers.i think we must be looking at a real lean mix issue here.
