2003 xt600e rear wheel removal/refit ques
I know it's probably the easiest thing in the world but i just wondered if someone could run through the procedure for rear wheel removal and refitting without tears . The reason I ask is because I was in a rush recently ( on my newly acquired XT) and tried the same technique as on my Honda dominator which simply involved knocking the spindle out /moving the wheel forward etc and no need to remove the caliper etc .
For some reason I struggled with the XT perhaps because I didn't remove the caliper or the clamps at the end of the swinging arm ? ...does this make it easier? I must add I was hungover at the time ! I'm on hols in france at the mo but want to sort on my return Can anyone clarify the best/easiest way to do this job? many thanks Bill |
Yes remove the caliper and the bolts in the end so you can pull it back. In front of the caliper there is a bolt holding wheel.

You dont have to remove the caliber. Just loosen the size14 nut that bolts the caliper to the swingarm.
If you remove the 2 small m5 screws (8mm head) in the rear of the swingarm (one on each side) then you dont have to remove the spindle copletely, you just need to make it clear the claiper, and the whole wheel, spaccers and spindle can be removed in one go. Skip to 13min in, on my video, and you will se: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHP-...mnsGl6Ynqb1iKw (note, I've already removed the 2 small screws in the rear of the swingarm) |
thanks Jens ..that's a really useful video and much appreciated.

I think it makes job easier removing the caliper, its only 2 bolts and you dont have to fiddle getting brakedisc in when holding wheel up.

Yeah...okay... I guess that could make it easier when youre not used to it. :thumbup1:
