2015 XT660Z Randomly stalling
 

Hey everybody

Currently in Kyrgyzstan with my new 2015 Tenere and now having some problems which is getting annoying now.

Started a few days ago while travelling up a really hard 'road', heavy offroading in other words.

And the bike would stall if - I let it idle in gear with the clutch fully depressed, and then go to rev it it would just stall. So initially I thought the bike may be overheating. But continued after the bike cooling down while I went for 5 hour hike.

After dropping in height (about 1000 metres) it seemed to stop. But then started again the next day. Then stopped after an hour and I managed to have a great time messing around on the dirt/mud roads up to and around Song-kul lake...

Then this started happening again when I got close back to Bishkek, Very annoying... Also after it stalls it takes a little while to start again. Not like when I first start the bike in the morning (almost instant)


Im confused and looking for other peoples suggestions as to what the problem is?

Bike has 17,000 km on it and the bike is nearly 4 months old. All services up to now performed by a yamaha garage.

Only engine modifications is a washable foam air filter.

1400 +-100 RPM on idle?

Look for a fuel blockage. Back flush hoses & filter :thumbup1:

Sometimes it idles good. and sometimes it idles low and when it idles low is when it stalls.

Ah good point. I will look into how to do this. Is there a way I can remove the hoses without the petrol just leaking out of the tank?

Don't do it whilst smoking is a good start :innocent:
Let the fuel drain into a container. Check for contaminents :thumbup1:

Sweet cheers. I may drive till the tank is nearly empty then do it. Kind of hard to get containers big enough for how much i have in the tank.

Yes you can, there will just be a little bit of spillage from fuel that was still in the hose.
