21" x 1.85 front wheel MX
Hi all. I'd like to know what MX bikes have the same rim size as the XT600E....
I'm going to buy an inverted suspension for my 1990 XT600E but since it's a pain in the :censored: to get things "homologated" here in Portugal I'm searching for one that already has a 21" x 1.85 front rim. and yes, mostly because of the looks but I'm a heavy guy and that'll also help quite a lot.. thanks :cool4: Vando |
Hi,
I don't know if it helps, but the XT750 Super Tenere has a 21 x 1.85 rim, I believe. I guess most MX bikes use a 21 x 1.60 rim - as the XT600 did up to '89. Geoff |
When I wanted to convert from a 19 to a 21 inch front I bought a rim and took a spare wheel to get rebuilt on the larger rim using the original hub, worked out at around 140 quid.... not that cheap but handy if you can't get the right wheel

Thanks Geoffe!
but will the XT600E normal size tire (1.85) fit on a 1.60 rim? it's because of the periodic inspection...the tyre sizes have to match the ones on the registration.... If it does fit, what are the pros and cons of doing this? Vando :cool4: |
could you keep your old wheel for the periodic inspection?
In the UK wheel sizes aren't checked, just condition but a few people have an 'mot' exhaust if their ear-bleeding cans aren't quiet enough(tut tut) |
I could keep it...on the MOT I guess It would pass but i'm more concerned of having an accident and because it ain't "legal" I could get my bike apprehended by the cops or my insurance could blame me and I'd have to pay for everything even if I wasn't the guilty of causing the accident....

suppose that might be a problem, luckily one we don't have - your tyres just have to be road legal
|
Or I could just buy the front end of a MX bike and buy a hub or an used wheel and buy a new rim for that MX bike model... with 21" x 1.85 size....
guess it would be easier no? |

Hi...the yoke is the least of my problems because I can make an axle that will fit the triple clamps and the XT frame :cool4:
When I do get a complete front end, and a wheel (or just a hub of the same bike model the suspension comes from) I'll buy a rim of the same size as on my registration for that other hub.... because to put the XT hub in the new front end I'd have to make some adaptors... for the front rotor, front brake caliper and make some spacers so the wheel would keep centered.... Sorry about my last post, the writting is too confusing (I've just read it and it's confusing even for me) |
Just talked to a DNA rim dealer and asked if DNA makes 21" x 1.85 rims for the YZ 125/250 and he said yes.
DNA complete wheel (rim + hub + stainless steel heavy duty spokes) cost 350USD with any color combo (hub and rim) that they sell. So I guess the main problem is solved now... :D here is the link for their website: motox-atv Now just one more thing which is to know how the speedometer thingy that fits on the front wheel axel of the YZ125/250 actually works and if it works with the XT600E speedometer... any help?
