3aj carb problem?
Hi,
I'm a bit of a technical numpty so please forgive the following! I've a 1989 3AJ. Started with a wee problem - when hooning along it'll die, cough, back fire and die before starting off again on the button (sometimes!) - very much like running out of fuel. Pulling out the choke and she runs better-ish. Problem is variable. I gather this could be a problem caused by muck in the carb. I've taken out the carb but where to start? Is giving it a clean something a numpty could/should tackle? I'm keen to learn but don't want a disaster! Cheers John |
numerous causes
There are numerous causes for this, ranging from the plain stupid to the outrageously expensive varieties.
Since you are in the 'it must be fuel' mode please check your tank vent and petcocks: sufficient fuel coming out of the tap towards carb (oh, check after the fr*gging fuel pump). If that's ok, check fuel supply to carb - healthy flow there? If not, the nasty little filter on top of the float valve seat might be blocked. Take it off, burn it and install inline filter. If the above does not work we'll go to ignition. Auke |

takes very little to block that sucker........ |
I had the exactly same problem a while back - It was an intermittent fault on the side stand switch. Before it gets expensive, bypass the side stand switch, and give it a go. It cost me a lot of money to find this out.
Give it a go regards dave |
