3TB cam cover
 

I need to take the cylinder head off to remove the remains of the old exhaust headers. Don't ask!

My problem is I can't get the 'cylinder head cover' off. I have removed the carbs and the head steady, and taken out all the allen bolts holding the cover in place (including the hidden one under the inlet valve cover), but I can't shift the central one between the bosses for the head steady. A normal allen key is not long enough to clear the casting for the boss, and there isn't enough clearance to get a ratchet and bit onto it. I've stopped before I round the damn thing out.

Anyone any bright ideas?

Sorted! It needed a night's sleep and a bit of decent daylight to see how to do it.

Did you forget a bolt?

Yes - the little one at the very top of the cover, in between the lugs for the head steady. It's almost invisible, even in daylight!
