'84 XT600 choke cable holder
So the little bracket that holds the choke cable sleeve to my carburetor doesn't want to hold the cable. It is either too loose to hold the cable sleeve in place when I use the choke or it is too tight and clamps the cable, preventing it from moving. Has anybody had to modify this little piece before? Any tips or recommendations?

Part of the issue is the teeter- todder arm that pull the choke out gets sticky and takes more effort to do it's job . I make sure the fingers are bent open enough to slide free plus polish everything along with grease to help it all go as easy as possible.
The clamp itself needs a little nub to hold the cable sheathing from sliding forward when pulling the choke out. But The only one that I still have with this setup still moves some so I usually pull the choke out with one hand while pushing the lever on the handlebar . If a person could rubber coat the clamp it would probably hold. The rest of my XT's I put regular pull knobs in and removed that whole setup. Now they're the same as most modern Mikuni or Keihin carbs with the choke down on the carb . |
hi JJrider. do you have a link or part number for the pull-knob arrangement?

Thanks, jjrider, for the comment. I ended up welding a washer onto the little bracket that holds the cable, and that keeps it from pulling out towards the carb. It doesn't really want to operate smoothly, still, so I end up doing like you do and pulling it by hand, too. It's certainly not the most difficult thing in the world.

try it with a kick start model
