The 84 XT600 has a new life!
:DI just completed a rebuild on a 1984 XT600 and wanted to share some build photos. I'm new to posting pictures, so bear with me as I fumble through it...
This is how I received her...a bit rough, but I see POTENTIAL! http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1719605_n.jpg I started stripping her down right away... http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._4463924_n.jpg Cracked the side case to remove the clutch basket that had a broken tab.. http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2525063_n.jpg New Frame Paint... I like the Blue and Black colors over the Red and white. http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6515601_n.jpg Frame Painting done...New front fender from a YZ250 http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6239817_n.jpg New rear fender from a YZ250 as well...cut down a bit to fit the skinny rear. http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2359137_n.jpg The Head was NASTY dirty...This was AFTER I cleaned it. The rest was removed with a grinder and sanding discs. http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7150984_n.jpg Piston didn't look too bad, so I left well enough alone and replaced the rings only. New Timing chain as well just to be safe...No pic...sorry. http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1911693_n.jpg Another shot of the head, rocker assembly, and bottom of engine. http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._4537943_n.jpg Can you say SHINY!!! http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._4095016_n.jpg Another shot of the newly rebuilt engine and fresh paint! http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2723375_n.jpg Another gratuitous engine porn shot... http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1246903_n.jpg She's getting there...Newer rims/tires/freah engine rebuild/paint... http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2936381_n.jpg My Makeshift paintbooth... http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._3000905_n.jpg New Seat cover... http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._3179221_n.jpg Nice and shiney new Paint!! http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1088091_n.jpg New headlight fainring and fresh paint. http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1020434_n.jpg From this... http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1719605_n.jpg To this!!! http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._3620847_n.jpg And.......She's done! Awesome! Good pictures!

What a difference! The engine looks sweet :thumbup1:
|
BOOOTAFUL !! :thumbup1:
How much though ??? |
looks great :thumbup1: always nice to see a bike brought back from the brink it could have been so easy to let it become a field bike which would have been thrashed and trashed to destruction.

Thanks Gents. It was a fun build. Now I'm looking for a new project...can't sit still. I have about $600 in parts in it and the bike cost me $1
|
maybe the next one should be a supermoto project like mine :cool4:
|
Excellent job!! cant believe how good the engine looks compared to what it was. looks brand new! how did you do it?
|
Well done!!!
Only one complaint - You should have kept the gold rims!!! |
Rob,
I used a pathat's similiar to powdercoat. You spray it on, then bake it, or run the engine to cure it. In my case, I baked the head and cylinder, and ran the bike to cure the bottom case. It was really easy, the hardest part was removing all the nasty built up crap prepping it for paint. Tenere Tom...I happen to like the silver myself. |
