94 3TB xt600e poor running issues
I'll start by saying I'm no expert so I may well be missing the obvious. Also I'm 26 and still learning alot.
Having some issues with getting the bike running well. I ride it to work on 30mph roads but when i tried going on faster roads it didnt like the high speeds. Also doesn't like it when I give it lots of throttle. It starts feeling like it wants to stall and just loses power. It has plenty of power low down in the revs and pulls strong on low throttle.
I've got new inlet rubbers on it and both them and the airbox- carbs rubbers seem good and sealing fine. The plug always seems to have sooty deposits, suggesting rich mixture but the jetting and silencer makes me think it shouldnt be? Why would it only happen when i give it a handful? What tests should I do to work out whats causing the issue? What jetting should I be using for this set up? thanks in advance! |
Your jetting is richer, no need to do that with just and exhaust for this bike.
Set both needles in stock position, and see if it helps. Im nut sure thats the whole problem, as I would still expect the bike to run "normally" (allthough slightly rich) with your settings. |
Open carb and check the filter inside, had same problem with stalling due to rust inside, i would use 115 second carb and 140 main.

Have you checked the small fuel filter on top of the carb float valve for restriction?

Hi guys thanks for the suggestions. I have still been using it to get too and from work and yesterday as I was putting the seat back on I thought I'd remove the snorkel and air chamber that attaches to the snorkel. Took it out for a test ride and it's fixed the issue! I guess it just couldnt breathe well enough.
I still suspect the jetting will need looking at but its made a huge difference. Now, if anything, it feels like I have to give it a handful to get good power! I'll check that filter and experiment with the jetting suggestions. much appreciated! Andy |
If you buy the Dynojet kit you get the correct size and drill for the hole in the vacum slide. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...it-worth-72218

Like everyone is saying..
The small filter in the carb under the float valve is the primary cause for this issue. Get rid of it and install a quality in-line filter into your fuel line. |

But the removal of snorkel suggests rich / air stavation? I did have an issue with rust in the tank ( before i swapped to an acerbis) so i was running an inline filter after a thorough clean of the carb. I will take the advice on board though and always run a inline instead of the internal carb one. Sounds much easier to deal with if stuff does get through the tank. |

Whilst it's running well at the moment I'm happy so I'll just keep an eye on it until funds allow the kit. I have plenty of other things above that on my priority list at the moment and a tight budget to work with until I sell some of the parts from the Donor bike. Anyone need anything from a Kickstart 3TB model?:offtopic::rolleyes2: |
Sorry.. I didn't read your reply. Glad its fixed. Jetting can be witchcraft.
Get rid of that filter anyway. It caused me a lot of agro in Brazil on mine. _____________________________________________ Find me on Facebook: MotoTed & MotoRevive. |
