'94 gearbox bearings
 

Could anyone tell me about these two bearings in the gearbox of their XTZ660.

Are they open both sides or are they 2RS sealed bearings with the inner seal removed.

I see in the oil flow diagram that oil is pushed into cavities formed in the casing around the end of the gearbox shafts and in turn, into a drilled hole in the two shafts. The oil is then forced down through the hollow gear shafts and out once again through drilled holes to lubricate the gears .

I feel that if they where open bearings some of this oil feed would find its way through the gaps in the bearing cage and not properly lubricate the internal drilled holes. But I could be wrong, maybe it doesn't matter that much.

Well got no reply so just went ahead and built the engine with 2RS bearings with the inner seal removed.

As oil is designed to flow down inside the gear shafts I reckoned I would only lose some through the cage of the bearing if the seals weren't there.

I don't know, but your theory is sound:-)
What bearings were removed, or were the cases stripped when you got them?
