Acerbis Tank Help
Hello chaps,
I've got an Acerbis 23 litre tank and have a couple of install questions. Firstly, the two fuel taps, as you're sitting on the bike the right tap has a line going over to the left side. Does this line run up over the frame but under the tank? Secondly, do both the taps have to be on at the same time or can either be used individually? Sorry for the basic questions but better safe than sorry :scooter: Thanks |
I think the line across is better as straight an low as pos. if it goes over the frame, once the fuel level reaches the high point of the pipe fuel will not flow. If you use the tap with the tee until that side runs out then turn the other side on it acts as reserve(as long as the fuel can flow). I'm assuming its a single carb?

Hey, i put my line where the carbs sit, theres plenty of room there. Under the frame, and under the tank.
Yes you can use just on of the petcocks, just gather the 2 fuellines in a t-joint. I always just use the left petcock, that gives me more in "reserve" when the left one goes dry. |
hey.....I fitted mine last weekend, had similar contemplations while sitting on the floor along side the bike.
Assuming you sitting on the bike, I ran the fuel line from the right petcock under the tank, above the carb and behind (towards the rear of the bike) the "throttle cable connection to the carb".....although there appeared more space infront....to the Y-junction and onto the carb. The reason I did that was because I wanted the fuel cable out of the way (ie: under the tank), I wanted the most direct route to put the least effort on the carb when drawing fuel (there is a slight incline in the tube flow doing it this way but this hasnt seemed to affect its working), didnt want it interferring or limiting the throttle cable when riding/ accelerating/ decelerating etc...and didnt want it resting on anything too hot (ie: engine).....Im not sure what it takes to become a fire-ball :confused1:. So far all appears to be working well. - You also got the lumo purple fuel lines ? - funky :Beach: Once set up.....let me know how it goes starting the bike, took me a while to get it operating properly.....and the air out the fuel lines :D....but hey, Im a novice. |
Thanks for the help everyone, very much appreciated.
Loving having the tank, although my wallet felt it when I filled up this morning. I'm still unclear about the two tap business though, do I run them both on, then when I feel the engine running out of fuel switch them both to reserve? |
easy... both have to be connected to a Y-junction. use one for "reserve" when you're getting close to reserve turn one off and use only the other one so no air goes in to the fuel line!

Yup... Thats what I did.... Worked a treat. I binned the crap fuel line supplied with it and got some stainless braided hose to cross over the carb. JUST IN CASE it got stuck or got too close to somewhere hot. |
