Airholes in front mudguard, necessary or not?
Hi!
I´ve seen a lot of 1VJ´s with holes or ventilation gaps in the rear lower portion of the front mudguard. I suppose these are for improving airflow to the cylinderhead for cooling. Are they necessary? Mine has no vent gaps, and it also has a mudguard extension wich makes it even longer. Should I take the extension off and cut vent gaps in the mudguard? (I´m going to western africa in a year or so, and from what I´ve heard I can use all the cooling I can get there.) Thanx... ------------------ Rikard the Swede |
There's an excellent summary of the different Tenere models on the dutch tenere oweners' website. According to this summary, the 1VJ had overheating problems partly due to the front mudguard obscuring the engine's cooling fins - especially around the head.
Therefore I'd say it would be a wise idea to either install a 3AJ front guard (not sure if they fit) or put some holes in yours. Klaus? Also, many people use Citroen 2CV oil coolers in place of the original. Kedo (www.kedo.de) sell finned versions of the two round 'tappet inspection' covers at the top front of the engine (don't know what they are called officially). ------------------ Barry 3AJ Tenere |
yes, it's a must on 1VJ.
even better is to mount the mudguard of an 34L/43F/55W or 2KF/2NF. but most important for an healthy engine is to modify the airbox. regards klaus |
Ok, I´ll fix some ventilation on my 1VJ.

Modification to the airbox?
I think that I´ve missed that one, is there a topic regarding this issue? ------------------ Rikard the Swede |
Oh, nevermind, I´ve found it!

my XT600E (3AJ engine) has an extension rivetted onto the back of the front mudguard, i thought someone had put it on but the new ones have it too.
